ah, I almost forgot, here is another piece of shocking news for Ahlam ;-)

~10% of the males of the human species have open or repressed homosexual tendencies. it's just genetics and neurobiology, not much to do with culture!

I guess there is a profound misunderstanding among most of the European Left of the current political situation in Palestine. They say Palestine, they imagine the PLO of the '70s, and they think of communist/leftists factions like Fatah, PPP, PPSF, PLF, PFLP, DFLP etc. They then join the "Cause" out of a misplaced sense of brotherhood and love for the underdog: The poor vs. the rich; the have not vs. the have it all; the occupied vs. the occupier. They put on their Manichean ideological hat, and can't see reality for what it is anymore. They frame the problem under faulty assumptions and dead ideologies. And from wrong premises, they can hardly reach a reasonable conclusion.

They can't see that today the Palestinians are squeezed between a failed and corrupt nationalistic Fatah and the radical suicidal cult of Hamas, with nothing in between. And in the heat of the political diatribe, instead of looking and helping that nothing to become something, they take sides. They can't see that neither is hardly an example of progressive secular thinking. The same liberal thinking that makes possible for anybody, including homosexuals, to manifest in the West their ideas in the open without fear of reprisal.
In a way they are in complete denial of the real nature of their "object of love". Which is no surprise, given the irrational nature of ideologies.

Now, as a brother to a lesbian sister still living in a somewhat homophobic society like most of Italy is, I know up close and personal the pain of finding acceptance and the feeling of isolation. So, maybe, just maybe, the feeling of empathy for the weak and the perceived "victim" is even greater. But maybe that is just psycho- bubble... ;-)

That does not excuse ignorance of the facts on the ground though...
